The December concert will pay tribute to both of these trailblazers. Especially relevant today is the enduring contribution by Casals as a deeply devoted humanist and advocate for peace. In the very midst of our community is Casals’ godson, cello faculty Lluís Claret, who will bring life music composed by the great Catalonian artist. The evening also features contributions from NEC’s Conductor’s Choir and our new professional piano trio in residence hailing from London, The Paddington Trio. For more than 40 years, First Monday at Jordan Hall has been a cornerstone of New England Conservatory’s musical community, bringing together acclaimed faculty, distinguished alumni, exceptional students, and guest artists for unforgettable chamber music performances. Founded by renowned cellist Laurence Lesser: https://necmusic.edu/faculty/laurence-lesser/ and now curated by three Artistic Co-Chairs — violist Nicholas Cords: https://necmusic.edu/faculty/nicholas-cords/, violinist Soovin Kim: https://necmusic.edu/faculty/soovin-kim/, and pianist HaeSun Paik: https://necmusic.edu/faculty/haesun-paik/ — the series celebrates the artistry, collaboration, and spirit of discovery that define NEC. The live stream of this event is available to NEC Community members only.
