Run Run Run by Tomoko Omura Tomoko Omura - violin Jeff Miles - guitar Glenn Zaleski - piano Pablo Menares - bass Jay Sawyer - drums Diana Huey - narration Noah McNeil - live projection Tomoko Omura celebrates her album “Run, Run, Run” (Outside in Music, 2025) — a multimedia work responding to the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, at TJG on Tues 8.18. An original short story and musical score by Omura, “Run, Run, Run” follows Lila, an almost-13-year-old girl racing through the streets of a devastated New York after a nuclear attack, searching for her family — and the music traces her journey from shock and grief to a fragile, determined hope. From Tomoko: The project began after reading “Barefoot Gen” by Keiji Nakazawa, a manga closely based on his own experience surviving the Hiroshima bombing. Gen is roughly the same age as my son, and his story stayed with me. As a parent raising a child in New York City — the birthplace of the Manhattan Project — I found this history both fascinating and deeply personal, especially at a moment when the voices of those who lived through nuclear disaster are fading and the world feels increasingly volatile. “One of the best jazz recordings of 2025/2026, hands down.” — Goldmine “Run, Run, Run“ was made possible by Chamber Music America's Artistic Projects grant. “One of the most compelling musical voices of our time” (Paris Move), Tomoko Omura is a violinist and composer known for richly narrative, cinematic work that draws on Japanese folklore, history, and a deeply lyrical improvisational voice.
